October 9th, 2011

At the 2011 Discovery Cup tournament in Boyds, Maryland, the NJ Stallion-BEC Celtics U13G end a very competitive weekend leaving as Semifinalists. After winning their bracket in the Top Flight, the girls played a well fought match against FC VIRGINIA SYA ’98 (#2 Ranked in VA), only to lose the game after 2 scoreless OT periods, in PKS. The match would end in a 5-4 score in favor of FC VIRGINIA who would go on to win the tournament. The girls were hoping to meet nationally ranked ALBERTSON FURY ’98 in the FINAL, however, in the opposite bracket, the ALBERTSON FURY ’98 team lost in virtually the same fashion. The NJ Stallion girls put up strong performances in group play in three games; first against NJ rival, TOMS RIVER FUSION (#4 Ranked in NJ) by a score of 4-1, BALTIMORE BAYS ’98 (#2 Ranked in MD) 0-0, and most notably BETHESDA ’98 (#1 Ranked in MD, and #12 Ranked in Region I). The players although disappointed with not advancing to the Final, were held in high regard by Coach Rooney who praised their efforts and hard work, citing their raised competitive fire over an enjoyable weekend in Maryland.

July 22nd, 2011

The U12G make it to the SEMIFINALS @ 2011 FC Delco Players’ Cup in the Top Division. In oppressive weather conditions, the U12G battled in 5 games in a 48 hour period, notching wins over LDC UNITED GALAXY (Ranked #3 in Pennsylvania), GARDEN CITY CENTENNIALS WILDCATS (NY East), including an exciting Quarterfinal Match over #4 North Carolina Ranked PITT GREENVILLE ’98 PGSA STARS that went to penalty kicks. The group stage match vs YMS EXPLOSION ’98, the #1 team in REGION I, was arguably the most exciting; a 4-3 Loss for the NJ STALLIONS-BEC Celtic Girls that was 2-0 at halftime, seeing YMS EXPLOSION ’98 coming back to tie in the 2nd half. With the score 4-3 in the closing minutes, the NJ STALLIONS girls had 2 corner kick opportunities that did not find the back of the net. In the end, the Semifinal was a loss to NJ Regional Rival, FC Sting Charge. Overall, the performance was the best showing the NJ Stallions’ girls have put up in the 3 years attending the event in the Top Division.
