CHAMPIONS!! @ 2011 MANHATTAN KICKOFF CLASSIC !!

March 7th, 2011

The BEC Celtics win the top division CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY at the 2011 MANHATTAN KICKOFF CLASSIC! In the 4 games including the Final, the U12G had “0″ Goals Against, earning 4 consecutive “shut-outs” earning victories over BEACHSIDE OF CT, EAST MEADOW SC STARS 98, FC SOMERS CYCLONES, and PAGS-SOUTH HAMPTON SA CRUSH in the final.

Coaches Meredith Rooney & Glenn Livingstone were extremely pleased by everyone on the roster. The team has been diligently training 3 x a week since December. After 2 successful Indoor performances playing up in age, the tournament win at MANHATTAN KICKOFF is the best reward the girls could have earned after all their hard work; and an even better way to kickoff the U12G Spring Season.

Ball movement was excellent. Player movement on and off the ball by all the players was terrific. Above all, the coaches were extremely pleased by their will to compete in tough conditions at Tibbets Park in Yonkers thru the rain and cold. 11 Goals were scored over 4 Shut-Out games, by 7 different players. The shut out performance was underscored by an excellent performance by NJ Stallions’ Goalie, Meghan Marhan. Congratulations girls! Good luck this Spring!

WINTER TRAINING REVIEW U12G/ TSF Martin Luther King Day & Quickstrike Make-A-Wish 9v9 Tourney Recaps!!

March 1st, 2011

The NJ Stallions-BEC Celtics U12G team wraps up its winter training season next week. The players have been training 3 times a week since early December, including co-ed sessions with some of the older boys at NJ Stallions Academy. Some highlights of the winter include very strong showings at 2 Indoor events in January & February. At the TSF MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY indoor event, the U12G played up in age with U13G teams in a 7v7 format. Coach Meredith Rooney and Coach Glenn Livingstone took small sided squads that played very well, including a match where they played ‘each other’. A rare opportunity for the girls to face up against their teammates in an event, had them playing hard to an eventual 1-0 game! (bragging rights went to Coach Rooney!!). The BEC girls also put up wins against the TSF Academy U13G, and an all-star Monroe-Woodbury U13G team as well.

More recently, on Saturday Feb 19th, the girls were in the QUICKSTRIKE MAKE-A-WISH 9v9 tournament and again performed well playing up in the U13G age group; winning 3 of the 4 games they played. Wins against, NIRVANA LEGACY, EAST HUDSON ACADEMY, and most notably the QUICKSTRIKE U13G made the trip memorable. The one loss in the event was to the BAY SHORE U13G, losing 3-1 but outshooting their opponent in the process. Overall, the coaching staff is very pleased with their hard work this winter. Next up will be the MANHATTAN KICKOFF CLASSIC, and afterwards, outdoor training begins in mid-March.
