U10 Girls See Tough Competition at Players’ Cup 2009

May 29th, 2009

The U10 Girls saw the toughest competition they’ve seen since the beginning of BEC. The players saw 3 opponents: The U10 Girls from Mclean, the U10 Team from West Mont PA, and finally the U10 Albertson Fury team, regarded as the #1 team in the age group in the country. BEC managed a 4-0 win over the Development Academy squad from Mclean, then in the afternoon match against the PA State Cup Winner in West Mont, lost by a score of 3-1. In the 3rd match on the 2nd day, the BEC U10 squad fought hard against the Albertson Fury; accepted a 2-1 score at halftime only to eventually lose the game 5-1. What the coaching staff was most pleased about the tournament was their willingness to keep fighting against more experienced teams. Most of all, the BEC staff feel that the tournament was a positive experience in terms of their development as the girls were able to really see what well trained teams can do. The players of course were disappointed that they were unable to make the Sunday semi-final, but the BEC Coaches have reassured them that for a team that has only been together for 4 months, their performance showed immense promise and potential.
